2009 First Spouse Coins

The 2009 First Spouse Coins feature some of the nation's most beloved and influential First Spouses in history. Issued in the order that they served our country, the coins were released on a schedule which corresponds with the release
of the United States Mint's $1 Presidential Coins.

The 2009 offerings include Anna Harrison, Letitia Tyler, Julia Tyler, Sarah Polk and Margaret Taylor.

The 2009 series differs from prior years in that there were a total of five different coins released, as opposed to the usual four coins. This reason for this difference is due to the issuance of two seperate coins honoring John Tyler's first and second wives.

The one-half ounce 24-karat gold coins, were minted at the Mint at West Point and are made available in both proof and uncirculated conditions. This unique series pays homage to the nations first spouses who served our country through years of both struggle and prosperity. The obverse of the coins features a likeness of each first spouse, along with the order and dates of service as first spouse and the year that the coin was minted.
