The 2007 First Spouse Gold Coin program from the United States Mint featured the Dolley Madison gold coin as the fourth release in it's inaugural year of production.

Dolley Madison was born in Virginia in 1768 and married James Madison in September of 1794. Known for her cheerful demeanor and being a gracious host at many of her wildly popular social gatherings attended by the most influential members of society. Replacing the smaller dinners preferred by previous Presidential families with larger events which came to be known as dove parties, these functions became venues were current events could be discussed by many in a relaxed setting.

These functions were left to the wayside for a time in 1814 as British troops made progress in it's invasion of Washington, D.C. nearly succeeded. Disregarding the warnings of city officials to flee the city, Dolley Madison stayed in her place of residence until the very last moment. When finally taking her leave of the White House, she is credited with saving many valuable items and documents including George Washington's portrait painted by Gilbert Stuart.

Jefferson’s Liberty First Spouse Gold Coin

The First Spouse Gold Coin Program from the United States Mint created a unique idea for the exceptions when there was a President who served his term in the White House without a First Spouse. This exception was applied to the creation of the Thomas Jefferson edition, who had lost his beloved wife Martha in 1782, nineteen years prior to becoming the third President of The United States.

The First Spouse Gold Coin program arranged for the issuance of a design featuring Liberty as originally presented on a United States coin in circulation during that President's era. In the case of Thomas Jefferson’s term as President, the program chose a representation of Liberty as she appeared on Chief Mint Engraver Robert Scot's Draped Bust Half-Cent coin design, which had been in production between the years of 1800–1808.

The coin's reverse features an image of Jefferson's Burial Monument located at his estate in Monticello, as sculpted by Mint designer/engraver Charles Vickers. The coin also references Jefferson's self-written epitaph, noting many of his most famous accomplishments.

Abigail Adams First Spouse Gold Coin

The 2007 inaugural edition of First Spouse $10 Gold Coins from the United States Mint featured the Abigail Smith First Spouse Gold Coin as it's second release overall. The coin's obverse which features a beautiful potrait of the First Lady designed by famed sculptor Joseph Menna. The coin's reverse features a design by Thomas Cleveland and was sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. This design showcases Abigail Adams writing her famous 1776 letter appealing to her husband to move forward the Women's Rights Movement in his work with the new United States Republic. This letter would become to be known as "Remember The Ladies".

Born in Massachusetts, in 1744, she became married to John Adams at the age of twenty in 1764. When her husband became President in 1797, Abigail Adams served the nation for four years becoming the first First Lady to reside in the White House.

This half ounce coin is minted in .9999 24 karat fine gold and was strictly limited in quantity to 40,000 pieces, and
were shipped from the Mint packaged in a highly polished, plush-lined wooden case and comes complete with a Certificate of Authenticity from the U.S. Mint.

Martha Washington First Spouse Gold Coin

The Martha Washington First Spouse $10 Gold Coin is the inaugural release in the First Spouse Gold Coin Program from the United States Mint. Each 1/2 oz. coin has a nominal face value of $10 and is made of 24 karat .9999 fine gold. The coins were strictly limited to quanities of 20,000 uncirculated coins and 20,000 proof coin versions.

The wife of our First President, George Washington, Martha Washington served as First Lady from the years of 1789–1797 and was primarily referred to as "Lady Washington". Born Martha Dandridge on June 2, 1731, Martha became married to George Washington in 1759 and remained by his side for nearly 40 years.

The obverse of the Martha Washington First Spouse Coin which was designed by U.S. Mint medallic sculptor Joseph Menna, displays an obverse design featuring a likeness of Martha along with the words "In God We Trust" and "2007" - the year of the coin's mintage. The "W" mintmark is also displayed on the coin, referring to it's origin of production at the West Point Mint.

The reverse design by Susan Gamble features the First Lady mending her husband’s military uniform. It also displays the title of "First Lady Of The Continental Army" referring to her selfless contributions made through the Revolutionary War. In 1797 the George and Martha Washington left public life and returned home to their property at Mount Vernon, while living out their days surrounded by friends, family and many well-wishers who merely wished for a chance to express their gratitude to the beloved First Couple for their many years of public service and sacrifice.
