The Martha Washington First Spouse $10 Gold Coin is the inaugural release in the First Spouse Gold Coin Program from the United States Mint. Each 1/2 oz. coin has a nominal face value of $10 and is made of 24 karat .9999 fine gold. The coins were strictly limited to quanities of 20,000 uncirculated coins and 20,000 proof coin versions.
The wife of our First President, George Washington, Martha Washington served as First Lady from the years of 1789–1797 and was primarily referred to as "Lady Washington". Born Martha Dandridge on June 2, 1731, Martha became married to George Washington in 1759 and remained by his side for nearly 40 years. Read the rest of this entry »

Produced by the United States Mint beginning in 2007, the First Spouse Coin series introduced a new program to coin collectors and investors which commemorates the great women of the Oval Office. This program compliments current program which issues the Presidential $1 Coin honoring the historical Presidents Of The United States. This release gives the United States an opportunity to honor America's remarkable first spouses through the release of 1/2 ounce $10 gold coins detailing their likenesses, released in the order that they served the nation as first spouse.
